Manga Pachadi

raw mango pachadi

Manga pachadi/Raw Mango sweet pachadi is an authentic recipe prepared duing Tamil New year.

During Raw mango seson I often prepare this yummy katta meetta pachadi. I prefer ottu manga/kilimooku manga to make this pachadi.

When you make this manga pachadi for Tamil New year, fresh neem flowers are added to have all tastes (Sweet (Jaggery),  Sour (Mango), Bitter (Neem flowers), Spiciness (Red chillies) )on this special day.

You can skip Neem flowers while preparing on normal days.

Ingredients:
  • 1 Raw mango
  • 3/4 cup Jaggery (alter it according to sourness of Raw mango)
  • A pinch Cardamom powder (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp Neem flower (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp Salt

For Seasoning:
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 Red chilli (broken )
  • 1 tsp Oil

Method:

1) Chop the raw mango into big pieces. I have not peeled the skin as I love to have this pachadi along with skin. If you dont like the skin, peel it off and chop.

2) Pressure cook it for 2-3 whistles (without adding water).

3) After it cools add jaggery, mix well and heat this mixture. There is no dirt in my Organic jaggery so I added them directly. If you are using normal varitey, heat the jaggery with 1 cup of water and strain it to remove dirt. Boil this syrup for few minutes then add cooked Raw mango and salt.

4) After pachadi thickens, add Caradamom powder and switch off the flame.

5) Add Neem flower and mix well.

6) Heat oil in a kadai and add mustard seeds to splutter. Next add red chillies and fry. Pour this sesoning mixture on Manga pachadi.

Yummy Manga pachadi is ready.

Tips:

1) Instead of pressure cooking Raw mango, you can also cook directly. After straining the jaggery water add raw mangoes to it and cook on medium flame.

2) Generally fresh neem flower is added but I have replaced with dried ones as it was not available.

3) Cardamom powder is optional, you can skip it if you don't like.
