Red rice Mini Idli

red rice idli

Steamed food is always healthy that's why we prefer idlis any time and particularly during fever. I wanted to make this idli still more nutritious so I tried with red boiled rice. The idlis look slightly red in colour but the taste remains the same.

I prepared the idli batter first. Normal idli batter needs 4 cups of idli rice and 1 cup urad dal proportion.

I  have replaced 2 cups(half) with red boiled rice and remaining with normal idli rice and prepared the batter.

Ingredients:

2 Cup Idli rice
2 cup red boiled rice
1 cup whole Urad dal
1 tbsp fenugreek seeds

Method to make batter:

1) Soak idli rice, red boiled rice and fenugreek together for 3-4 hours.

2) Soak Urad dal separately for 3-4 hours.

3) Grind the Urad dal to smooth fluffy paste.

4) Seperately grind rice to coarse paste.

5) Mix rice paste, urad dal paste and salt.

6) Let it ferment overnight.

Check out my idli batter for detailed procedure.

Ingredients for Red rice mini idli:

2 cups Red rice Idli batter

Method for making Red rice mini idlis:

1) Pour enough water in idli cooker (or pressure cooker or electric rice cooker) and heat it.

2) In the mean time, grease the idli plates with sesame oil.

3) Take the Idli batter with spoon and fill in the moulds of idli stand.

4) Once water starts boiling , place the idli stand in idli cooker and close the lid.

5) Steam for 5 to 6 mins as the mini idlis takes lessor time to cook than the normal ones.

6) Insert the fork or tooth pick to check whether idlis are cooked. If it comes out clean the idlis are ready. If you can see idli batter in toothpick or fork, you need to cook few more mins.

7) Once they are done, remove the idli stand and allow it to cool for few mins.

8) Remove the idlis from idly stand with a spoon.

Hot steaming idlis are ready.....We can use the same batter to prepare normal idli and dosa.
