Cabbage Paruppu Usili

Cabbage paruppu usili is a tasty poriyal that goes well with Rice.

  • 2 cups Cabbage (chopped finely)
  • 1/2 cup Toor dal
  • 1 laddle Channa dal
  • 2 Red chilli
  • A pinch Turmeric powder
  • A small piece or 1/4 tsp Asafoetida/Hing
  • As per taste Salt
For Seasoning:
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp Urad dal
  • 2 tsp Oil 

Method for Paruppu usili:

1) Clean and soak toor dal and Channa dal together for 1/2 hour in warm water.

2) Drain the water completely and grind coarsely with red chilli, Asafoetida, turmeric powder and salt. Steam the grounded dal. 

3) After it cools, Crumble the paruppu usili . Heat 1 tsp oil in a kadai and add mustard seeds. When it splutters add crumbled paruppu usili and fry for few mins.  Transfer to a bowl to cool down.

Method for Cabbage paruppu usili:

1) Heat 1 tsp of Oil in a kadai and crackle mustard seeds. Then add urad dal and fry till light brown.

2) Add cabbage and fry for few minutes. Add Salt and sprinkle few water,  close it with a lid to cook.

3) After cabbage is cooked and all water are dried up, add paruppu usili and mix well.

Tasty Cabbage paruppu usili is ready
