Togarikaalu Wheat Rava uppittu/Tuvar Wheat Rava Kichdi is a yummy and healthy Break fast recipe which is diabetic friendly too:).

During Season, Bangalore is flooded with Togari kaalus/Green pigeon peas which is nothing but fresh undried form of Toor Dal/Togari bele/Tovaramparuppu. Interested in knowing more about these greens, click here. Here is the picture of Togarikaalu/Tuvar lilva/Green pigeon peas with outer cover.

Togarikalu vegetable Rice

Coming to our recipe....

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup  Wheat Rava/Samba ghoduma Rava/Dalia
  • 4 cups Water
  • 1/2 tsp Lemon Juice
  • 3 tbsp Coriander Leaves (Finely Chopped)

Veggies:
  • 1 Cup Togarikaalu/Tuvar Lilvaa (Removed from outer cover)
  • 1 Onion (Finely chopped)
  • 1 Tomato (Finely chopped)
  • 1 Capsicum (Finely chopped)
  • 5-7 Beans (Finely chopped)
  • 1/4 cup Cabbage (Finely chopped)
  • 1 Carrot (Finely chopped)
  • 1 Green chilli (Slight length wise)
  • 1/4 tsp Ginger (Finely chopped)

For Seasoning:
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 2 tsp Channa dal
  • 2 tsp Split Urad dal
  • 1 tbsp Broken Cashews
  • 1 Red Chilli (Broken into pieces)
  • A pinch Asafoetida
  • 2 tbsp Curry Leaves 
  • 2 tbsp Oil


    Method:

    1)  Dry roast the wheat Rava till nice aroma and transfer it to a plate.

    2) Heat oil in the same kadai add mustard seeds and after it splutters, add Asafoetida, Channa dal, Urad dal and sauté till light brown in colour.

    3) Add Red chillies, Curry leaves, Cashews and fry till light brown.

    4) Add Togarikaalus/Tuvar along with all the veggies and mix well. Leave them to get cooked for few minutes in oil in medium flame.

    5) Add Salt and 1 cup of water, close the kadai with a lid to leave it to cook in medium flame.

    6) After the veggies are cooked absorbing all water, add the broken wheat and mix well.

    7) Now add 3 cups of water and mix well. Close the kadai with lid and let it cook in medium flame.

    10) After the upma is cooked well, add chopped coriander leaves, lemon juice and give a quick mix .

    Tasty and nutritious Togarikaalu Wheat Rava upma is ready.

    Tips:

    1) You can also prepare the same upma with only Togarikaalu/Tuvar excluding other veggies it still tastes so yummy.
