Samai uthappam (Oothappam)

Recently every where we are hearing about millets (Siru thaniyangal) and its nutritional values. So I decided to include them but in a way that I should not feel as if I am dieting. First I tried with Foxtail millet (Thinai) as kheer, upma, etc and it came out so well and we all like it. Next is Little milet (Saamai Rice), I tried oothappam in it. The oothappam was crispy and tasty.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Idli Rice
  • 2 cups Samai Rice (LittleMillet)
  • 1 cup Urad dal
  • 1 tbsp Fenugreek seeds
  • oil
Veggies for oothappam:
  • 1 Carrot (Grated)
  • 1 Capsicum (Chopped finely)
  • 3 Onions (Chopped finely)

Method for batter:

1) Clean and Soak all ingredients together.

2) Grind
Saamai Rice, Idli Rice, Urad dal and Fenugreek seeds all together.

3) Finally add salt and mix well.

4) Batter is ready and let it ferment overnight.

5) Next day the batter is ready for oothappam.
(For detailed version, check Idli batter.)

Method for Oothappam:

1) Heat a tawa add a tsp of oil and spread it completely.

2) Take few carrot, capsicum and onion and spread it in middle of tawa and pour a laddle full
 of batter.
