Easy Wheat Bread Halwa
Easy Wheat Bread Halwa

Easy Wheat Bread Halwa is a delicious sweet which can be made in a jiffy.

Though I am not a big fan of Bread Halwa, I hesitantly tried it when I had unexpected guests at my home. To my surprise, I never got more than one spoon to taste this Halwa. The most interesting thing about this Wheat Bread Halwa is, with fewer ingredients I was able to make a great dessert and that too quickly.

A few months back, I prepared Badam Halwa and that's when I got this idea of preparing Bread Halwa. But somehow neglected it because of my hectic schedule and now the recipe has made its entry into my food blog:).

If you are a die-hard fan of desserts and sweets, then you should definitely look at my list of recipes which have many interesting desserts to try and taste.  Click Here  to have a look at the list of my dessert and Sweets recipes.

Ingredients:
  • 8 Bread slices (wheat bread)
  • 1/2 liter Milk
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Ghee
  • A handful Cashews
  • 1/2 tsp Cardamom powder

Method:

1) Chop the edges of the bread slices and cut them into square pieces.

2)  Heat ghee in a Wok/Kadai and add the Cashews, fry until golden brown.

3) Transfer the Cashews to a bowl and drop the bread slices in the same kadai.  Add few more ghee and fry till golden brown and crisp.

4) Transfer the bread slices to another bowl, add milk to the same kadai and leave it to boil. Add Saffron to milk and leave it to boil for few more minutes.

5)  After the milk reduces to 3/4th of its quantity, drop the bread slices.

6)  Leave the bread slices to get soaked in milk and can see them start cooking in milk. The bread slices start absorbing the milk and start turning mushy.

7) You can see that the bread slices got completely mashed up. Leave them to cook in low flame. Add sugar and mix well. You can see Halwa loosening up when you add sugar.

8) When it is almost done, you can add the cashews. Stir well as you can see the halwa thickening. Since the possibility of halwa getting burnt at this stage, you need to keep stirring.

9) Add cardamom powder and mix well. You can see the halwa leaving sides and ghee coming out on sides.  Add more ghee and Switch off the flame. Serve this delicious Bread Halwa immediately

Tips:

1) You can replace wheat bread with milk bread.

2)  I didn't use any food color, you can use if you want to.

3) A liberal amount of ghee can only make the Halwa yummy so don't try to reduce the quantity.
